Filmed between March and December 1994, Repubblica nostra covers a decisive moment in Italian political history, the end of the first Republic and the beginning of the second. Filmed in Milan, the economic and media capital of Italy, its protagonists are citizens engaged in local politics: magistrates from the "mani pulite" group, an Alfa Romeo worker recently elected as a PDS member of Parliament, and the director of the Diakron polling institute, elected as a member for Forza Italia. The film ends with the resignation of Silvio Berlusconi as Prime Minister.
