A city in northern Argentina is shocked by a mysterious wave of juvenile suicides. One of the people who is directly affected is the adolescent Mariano, whose sister killed herself. He joins an emergency school program: a musical band, whose members are all relatives of a suicide victim. The goal of the project is to keep these people united. But also to isolate them from the world, as though they were the carriers of a disease. Based on a true story.

Rocío Caliri
Rocío Caliri and Melina Marcow are the cofounders of the production company Hulot Cine, created in 2012. The following year they debuted in directing with the short Yarará, followed by Anuncian Sismos, their first feature film. They are presently involved in the pre-production of El niño and, at the same time, are collaborating with Laura Derpic, from Bolivia, on the feature film’s screenplay.

Melina Marcow

“Announce Earthquakes is the result of a networking process between two provinces, Buenos Aires and Jujuy. It is the first movie of Hulot Films, it’s been financed independently and self-managed and incorporates the element of randomness and the technical limitations of the filming process as part of its narrative. The film doesn’t give answers about the motive of the suicides, and is instead focused on the consequences amongst a group of teenagers who have the certainty of holding the highest suicide rate in the country.”
