Don Askarian

Don Askarian was born in Stepanakert (Nagorno Karabakh) in 1949. He studied History and Art in Moscow, then worked as a assistant director and as a film critic. In prison from 1975 to 1977, in 1978 Askarian emigrated from USSR. Living in Berlin since 1979. In 1984 he directed The Bear, a film based on Cechov story, in 1988 Nagorny Karabakh, a documentary. Komitas, his first feature film, is dedicated to the victims of Armenian genocide in 1915.
