Gito, a student from Burundi studying in Paris, decides to return home taking with him his brand new diploma and a heap of illusions. He leaves his Parisian girlfriend, Christine, promising he will send for her as soon as he becomes a minister, which should not take long. But once back home, things turn out differently. Government offices are overstaffed and he cannot find a job. In the meantime he meets up again with his childhood sweetheart, Flora. Christine, worried by the lack of news, arrives without warning. Gito cannot prevent the two women from meeting. To teach him a lesson, they decide to join forces and devise a plan to humiliate him the way they feel they have been humiliated. Abashed and ridiculed, Gito becomes a general laughingstock. However, his humiliation has the salutary effect of opening his eyes to his conduct. He decides to mend his ways and forget his diploma and ministerial ambitions in favour of the thing he does best of all: sewing!
