Jenny is a young deaf woman. She runs away from the hospice where she is a patient in order to look for her brother Steve, who lives in a San Francisco hippie commune. Stoney, the lead in a small musical group, decides to help her. Jenny ends up falling in love with him; but, after fighting with him, she gets back at him by agreeing to let a hippie get her drugged. Under the effect of the drug, the young woman wanders around the city. She sees her brother being pursued by a group of reactionaries. Then she witnesses his death in a house fire. She barely escapes a car accident by the action of a hippie who loses his life to save her. Jenny returns to Stoney, who will help her to get over the trauma of her recent terrifying experiences.
