Sara and Marta are two young women who have been friends since the time they went to school together. They live in different cities and see each other rarely. When Marta is passing through Sara's city, the two friends get a chance to meet and go out together for a short car trip, but a sudden engine problem makes them get stuck on an anonymous country road. This unforeseen event is transformed into a stopover outside of time where Sara and Marta, who are very different in character and choice of life style, re-establish their intimacy when they confide to each other the important things of that moment in their lives.

"In the Pax.Max series I staged two male characters and their friendship. In a certain way, The Stopover experiments with the same thing with two female characters; but, precisely for this reason, it is more intimate and more problematic. Sara and Marta have the strongest aspects of femininity - awareness, curiosity, and the ability to look inside of themselves and look for their own inner balance. They are today's women in the independence with which they move and consciously choose their own way. In this sense, they are made from the same stuff, and, in fact, each finds her counterpart in the other even though they have made very different choices. I hope everyone feels free to sympathize with the one or the other Which one is closer to me is not important because The Stopover talks about the importance of looking for ones own equilibrium, inside of oneself in order to be able to accept differences and discuss openly with others."
