One evening in Lisbon, Franny, an American passing through, is feeding the fish in a fountain. A little way off, Esmeralda, a hooker, is waiting for her clients. The women, both of sturdy character, strike up a friendship. Franny is in Lisbon to transmit a mysterious package to a certain João, a friend of his brother's, whose name and address she doesn't know. No matter! Esmeralda, who seems to know everyone in town, decides to help her find the man. Thinking she knows where to find him, she asks Rui, one of her regular clients, to serve as their driver. On the road, they also requisition a saxophone player who appears to know this João as well. Together the quartet begins to comb the city in search of the package's recipient. But the mysterious package in its poor plastic black wrapping becomes the object of much coveting and soon is stolen. It changes hands many times. From one individual to another, this package with its mysterious contents helps reveal the many silhouettes that circulate at night; a night in which Lisbon becomes a magic village.

Eduardo Guedes
Born in Lisbona, Eduardo Guedes left university in 1963 to study at the London International Film School, where he would later return to teach. He produced and directed a number of independent films, including documentary series for the BBC. He worked in different sectors of the film and TV industries, particularly in collaboration with Peter Brook and Jeremy Isaac. In 1971, he joined the production-distribution company Cinema Action, where he worked on several documentaries. He directed the features: Rocinante, with John Hurt and Ian Dury, and Bearskin, with Tom Waits. In 1991, he returned to Lisbon, where he made Pax.
