Bahira, a rich widow, has four men courting her, but they are only after her money. She decides to go to Luxor, where she meets Ahmad, a young, penniless man. She falls in love with him and pretends to be poor, but it is the same strategy that Ahmad is using to find a woman who truly loves him. The truth comes out and the two get married.
"Ahmad Gialal, who was a pioneer in Egyptian silent films, continued his activity in sound movies. Al aris al khamis is one of the few remaining films by this director, who was also one of the first film critics in Egypt. Al aris al khamis may be the first full-length Egyptian movie filmed in the Luxor area; the ruins of the Pharaohs are shown in all their beauty" (Samir Farid).

Ahmad Gialal
Ahmad Gialal (Port Sa'id, Egypt, 1897 - Beirut, 1947). Director, producer, screentwriter and actor, he is the brother of the directors Husein Fawzi and Abbas Kamel. He began as a journalist and translator, and was an actor in the film Leila (1927). Along with his wife Mary Queni, he founded the company Aflam Gialal in 1942 and Studio Gialal in 1945.
