Al naddara al sawdà

The Dark Glasses
by Husam al Din Mustafa
Country: Egypt
Year: 1963
Duration: 110'

Cairo, 1947. The noblewoman Maghi, who always wears dark glasses, lives a frivolous and worry-free life. The intellectual engineer Omar shows her a new world, opening her eyes to literature and to the life of the factory workers where he is employed. After various incomprehensions, the two get married.

"Ihsan Abdu Al Quddus is the writer who best describes the condition of women in Egypt after the Second World War. Two of his most famous novels are: Ana hurra (I Am Free), which Salah Abu Seif turned into a film, and Al naddara al sawd`, which Husam Al Din Mustafa transformed into a film with the same title. Al naddara al sawd` was produced during the period when a woman was elected to parliament for the first time ever and another became a minister in an Egyptian government" (Samir Farid).
