Olivia is a mixed-up girl. Her mother Franca, who is a waitress, is humiliated and offended by life, her father Salvatore is violent and vulgar. Olivia, abandoned to her own devices, hates school and everything around her. Lilli is her total opposite: sunny, a dreamer and a fan of Olivia Newton John. The two end up in the same class and become friends. Lilli tries to help Olivia, and Olivia sees Lilli as a type of salvation-bringing id. At a certain point they decide to run away together.
