Leila and her father flee from the war that is being fought on the Arab peninsula. The two find refuge in a small town that is ruled by the Persian emperor Kisr`. Leila is in love with her cousin Buraq, but he refuses to live under the dominion of Kisr`. Ziad, who is also in love with Leila, decides to take the girl away from his hated rival and convinces the emperor to kidnap Leila. Buraq declares war against Persia and manages to save Leila on the very day she was to marry Kisr`.

"The censors blocked this film shortly after its premiere, because princess Fawzia, the sister of King Faruq, married the Shah of Persia. The government paid the film's production company 3,403 Egyptian lira as compensation. The film, entitled Leila, al badawiyya, was back on the screen only in 1944 and is the same copy that is being shown in this program" (Samir Farid).

Bahigia Hafez

Bahigia Hafez (Alexandria, Egypt, 1908 - Cairo, 1983). Actress, producer, director and musician, after completing her studies in Alexandria she studied music in Paris. In 1932 she founded Fanar Film with her second husband, Mahmud Hamdi. After a disagreement with the director Mario Volpi, she finished directing the film Leila, the Beduin.
