Giuseppe De Santis

Giuseppe De Santis (Fondi 1917 - Rome 1997) began working in cinema in the 1940's as a critic, screenwriter and assistant to Luchino Visconti on Ossessione (1942). He participated in the Resistance in Rome and, in 1946, worked with Aldo Vergano on Outcry. In 1947 he debuted in directing with The Tragic Hunt and, two years later, directed his masterpiece Bitter Rice.
