Rigial Fi Al Assifa

Men in the Storm
by Husam al Din Mustafa
Country: Egypt
Year: 1960
Duration: 104'

One day, Radwan, an old man who lives alone, meets Aziza, a young and pretty pickpocket, and invites her to his house. Salim, a criminal friend of Aziza's, convinces the girl to marry Radwan and then kill him in order to inherit his wealth. But the young woman has fallen in love with Ahmad, Radwan's colleague, and persuades him to kill her husband. In order to get rid of Salim, she reports him to the police, while Radwan manages to avoid the crime that Ahmad was about to commit. Ahmad is sorry for what he was about to do: in a tragic finale Radwan is killed by the police and young Aziza loses her life, too.

"Rigial fi al assifa is a movie that is completely ignored. This film was never shown on Arab television because of the audaciousness and courage with which it treated the theme of sensuality, taking into consideration the rules of the time. In the 1950's and 1960's, Hind Rustum was considered our most provocative sex symbol, so much so that she was dubbed the "Marilyn Monroe of the Orient". Rigial fi al assifa is the Egyptian film that is most closely tied to the school of naturalism, just like the movie Imra'a fi al tariq (Woman on the Road) by Izzuddin Zul Fiqar" (Samir Farid).
