Shai'un fi sadri

Something within
by Kamal Al Sheikh
Country: Egypt
Year: 1971
Duration: 102'

Husein Pasci` Shaker, an important businessman, has made his fortune thanks to his collaboration with the British authorities and the right-wing parties. Husein feels guilty and is angry with his childhood friend Mohammad, who has never stooped to compromises in order to get rich. But a tragic end awaits him.

"Shai'un fi sadri represents one of the apices of Egyptian cinema. The film has a solid narrative construction and is excellently directed. In this film, Rushdi Abadha gives his all. His acting performance, similar to that of Mahmud Al Miligi in Al ard (The Land) by Yusuf Shahin, is the synthesis of a long and rich experience" (Samir Farid, in a film critique published in "Al Giumhuriyya", September 9, 1971).
