Muhassab, who has to buy a new boat for a village in the Luxor area, leaves for Cairo aboard the boat of his friend Mugiahed. The owner of the only boat in the area pays a group of hoodlums to stop Muhassab from buying the new boat, but their plan is destined to fail.
"Omar Sharif had turned down the part of Muhassab, since the character was almost a peasant, while he was a graduate of the Victoria College in Alexandria. But I was able to convince him by saying that he would have known how to play the part, and his wife Fatin Hamama agreed with me. Omar smiled and accepted. And in fact, in my opinion, this was the best role he ever acted" (Atif Salem).

Atif Salem (1927) began his cinematographic career as assistant director. He has directed sixty feature films and eight documentary short films.
