The era of the Mamluks. The rich merchant Baher has fallen in love with his slave, Widad, who has a beautiful voice. After a group of bandits attacks a caravan of goods that Baher had bought, the merchant suddenly finds himself impoverished and loses everything, including Widad. The two lovers are separated, but Baher manages to become rich again, liberate his beloved and marry her.

"Widad is the first film that the Misr Company for Theater and Cinema produced and filmed at the Misr Studios, which the company built. Moreover, it is the debut film for Umm Kulthum, a singing star in Egypt and the Arab world, and the first Egyptian film to be chosen by the Festival of Venice: it was shown there at the Festival in 1936" (Samir Farid).

Fritz Kramp, a German director and editor, was born in 1903. He has directed three full-length films, the first in Holland, the second and third in Egypt.
