BABY BIRD, UNBORN

BABY BIRD, UNBORN
by Katrin Olafsdottir
Country: Iceland
Year: 2012
Duration: 10'

Green hillsides, all around. The house where the boy lives has a window he can sneak out of and walk on the damp ground, conversing with a man about the concept of happiness and freedom. Another man has three recurring dreams: in the first, he abandons reality and lives in a world where his abilities aren’t hampered and, for example, he can even fly. He also dreams of crossing the line between life and death and rejoining those who have died. And finally, he dreams of always being in love.

Declaration

film director

“An important factor of working outside of the system is that you don’t have to come up with a story that film commissions will find understandable or profitable. This means that directors who are true visionaries have a hard time getting their films financed. Ignore the unwritten rule that you can’t start making a film without having all the budget in place, also ignore the idea of having a ‘real’ budget. Spend as little money as possible; buy only things that you absolutely need. That gives you great freedom, both personal and artistic.”
