IL FIRMAMENTO

In a bare room, in a city like any other, a man and a woman are naked. The night’s lights reveal the scars on their bodies; but as it often happens, not all of them are visible. The night and a clarinet are the only ones speaking, its music emerging from who knows where. Then a sentence said by the woman, perhaps without too much thought, causes irreparable damage. All in one night.

“The challenge in making a film from Antonio Moresco’s play Il firmamento was to transfuse the truth written on page into a gaze looking at a body that is focused on the essential, so close that it becomes almost abstract, beyond naturalism. Image word sound: three parallel levels that keep on intersecting one another outside the screen, in the viewer’s mind. The rest are visions. Visions that radiate from a wound. The firmament as a wound of creation and incarnation. Love as a wound of existence.”
