IMOGENE

IMOGENE
by Robert Pulcini, Shari Springer Berman
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Duration: 103'

Imogene, a failed playwright, fakes her own suicide to make her ex-boyfriend feel sorry for her. As a result, she is entrusted to the custody of her exuberant mother Zelda, a gambling addict who is separated from her husband, and returns to her family home on the Jersey Shore. Leaving behind the “cool” superficiality of New York, the girl finds herself dealing with a series of bizarre characters who orbit around her mother, starting with her new companion, an alleged undercover CIA agent; her brother Ralph, who has a thing for crabs; and brilliant but mysterious Lee, who lives with them.

Declaration

film director

“I am attracted to cranky, lovable people. [...] I guess I love the idea of someone who isn’t overtly nice, and I feel like so many movies, especially Hollywood movies, it’s so about people being nice. One of the biggest notes when I write for studio films is that the character has to be likable, and I think that people can be completely lovable and not, on the surface, nice.” (Shari Springer Berman)
