Five young people are walking through a forest, moving like a pride of lions, lost in their word games, but always careful to make use of the arms of seduction they have borrowed from the adult world, which sometimes attracts them and sometimes puts them off. Their roam through nature is an extreme attempt to avoid what they view as a future that has already been written.

Jazmín López
Jazmín López (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1984) graduated in film directing from her hometown’s University of Cinema and in 2007 made her first short, Parece la pierna de una muñeca, which was followed by Juego vivo and Te amo y morite, which were presented at various international festivals, including the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, Rotterdam and Huesca. A visual artist as well as a director, she participated in 2011 at Istanbul’s Biennale and has exhibited her works in Argentina, Mexico and the United States. Leones, her debut feature film, participated at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section.

“Leones is an essay about death, from the point of view of a mortal being, death seen as a beautiful landscape. Youth and its obsessions; death, its beauty and incomprehension. How weak can the human body be in comparison to an intellectual construction? These kids are always in the moment. References to temporality are downplayed, or even denied. They are not only in the moment but immersed in it, anxious and bored, almost beyond temporality. The decay of these flowers and the dirt of their clothes exert pressure on memory. Their extreme presence is more than eternal. End of time: they are not aware of their past.”
