CONFIDENTIAL REPORT

ROBOT & FRANK

ROBOT & FRANK
by Jake Schreier
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Duration: 89'

The film, set in the near future, tells the story of Frank, a retired thief once specialized in jewelry heists, and who is now over seventy years old. His two sons, worried that he might be losing his memory and his self-sufficiency, decide to entrust their father’s care into the hands of a robot programmed to improve his physical and mental conditions. The “cohabitation” is difficult at first but they eventually develop a particular and valuable bond. Frank’s condition drastically improves: he finds pleasure again in the passions he had cultivated all his life. Including the one for thefts.

Declaration

film director

“We’ve been fortunate enough to show the film to a lot of different people in robotics. […] We also were part of the Robot Film Festival in New York, which was really interesting. A lot of people there worked in different parts of the robotics industry. In general, people seem very pleased just to have a movie in which robots aren’t trying to kill everyone.”
