TWO NUDES BATHING

TWO NUDES BATHING
by John Boorman
Country: UK
Year: 1995
Duration: 35'

The anonymous 16th century painting from the Fontainebleau School, France that hangs in the Louvre is masterfully brought to life by Sir John Boorman (UK) (now 90) as a gripping, beautiful tale of romance and drama. The mysterious pose whereby two young women sit in a bath, one holding the nipple of the other between finger and thumb, has baffled all the experts. This featurette opened Cannes Film Festival in 1995, and won Sir John Hurt the Cable Ace Best Actor award. This film is an inspiration for the upcoming series Provenance, which will bring paintings to life by international visionary filmmakers.

Co-Creator and Producer David Wachs will be presenting the film, and speaking about the making of "Two Nudes Bathing", along with a Q&A (November 25 screening only).

Biography

film director

John Boorman

(Shepperton, United Kingdom, 1933), after debuting in radio and at Southern Television as a film editor, became the director of BBC’s documentary section. Catch Us If You Can was his first fiction film. He next directed Point Blank and Hell in the Pacific in the United States; both films were very successful and were harbingers of his most exemplary film, Deliverance (1972). His career progressed with many films that followed in the traces of his established themes: from Zardoz (1974) to The Tailor of Panama (2001), from John Le Carré, by way of Excalibur (1981) and The Emerald Forest (1985).
