With over 900 thousand visitors per year, the Egyptian Museum is the fifth most visited museum in Italy and is the oldest in the world dedicated to the civilization of ancient Egyptians. In Turin, 40 thousand artifacts are preserved, with 12 thousand displayed on 4 floors of the museum. Sphinxes, colossal statues, tiny amulets, sarcophagi, narrate almost 4000 years of ancient history. Among the world-famous exhibits are the Papyrus of Kings, known abroad as the Turin King List, the only list that has reached us reconstructing the succession of pharaohs, handwritten on papyrus, or the Papyrus of Mines, one of the oldest known maps. There are also sculptures like the statue of the priest Anen, that of Rameses II, the so-called Isis of Copto, in addition to the rich funerary equipment of Kha, overseer of the construction of pharaohs’ tombs, who, along with his wife Merit, will be among the protagonists of the entire narrative. But why in Turin, in 1824, was it decided to open a museum that had no equal in the world, dedicated to a civilization still being unveiled? Who was the first to see the profile of the pyramids in the Alps?
