Biography
film director

Ruggero Deodato
(Potenza, 1939 – Rome, 2022]) was an Italian director, screenwriter, and actor. He first specialized in comedies and detective movies, but made his name above all with horror movies. Famous for the extreme content of his films, he often had to deal with censorship and the law in Italy, such as in the case of his most violent detective movie Uomini si nasce poliziotti si muore (Live Like a Cop, Die Like a man, 1976), which was censored just when it was released, and the famous “Cannibal Trilogy,” which includes Ultimo mondo cannibale (Last Cannibal World, 1977); Cannibal Holocaust (1980), still today his most famous movie; and Inferno in diretta (Cut and Run, 1985). During the 1970s and through the '90s, in particular, besides his film career, he also worked in TV, directing episodes of TV series, and in advertising, shooting commercials for Piaggio, Fiat, Philips, Carrera, and many other companies.
