It’s a comedy rock musical about two teenagers and their outlandish family. Jackie is eighteen and works as a waitress in the inn owned by her parents. She wants to be a singer and her fourteen-years-old cousin Angus wants to help her achieve her goal. To do that, he comes up with all sorts of crazy ruses. The obstacles seem to be insurmountable, until Jackie’s dream finally comes true on the stage of the Sydney Opera House, on New Year’s Eve.

Gillian Armstrong

With her first feature film, My Brilliant Career (1979), Gillian Armstrong gained international fame at once. The movie, which was invited to officially represent Australia at the Cannes Film Festival, won several international awards, getting the nomination among the five best films competing for the Oscar as Best Foreign Film.
She was born in Melburne and attended Cinema Schools both there and in Sydney; she worked as editor at Kingcroft Productions in Melburne and established herself as a filmmaker with several documentaries and short films, which were also shown abroad; among those Gretel, presented at the Grenoble International Short Film Festival; The Singer and the Dancer, which in Australia got the Greater Union Award and the Australian Film Institute Award. Starstruck is her second feature film.
