We are in Rome on a hot, stuffy, faceless Sunday afternoon. An unlicensed fruit vendor has parked his dilapidated truck loaded with golden necklaces on a bare, dug-up, little field on the outskirts of the city. He is following the final minutes of the game between crosstown soccer rivals, Roma and Lazio, on his portable TV, rooting and cursing in Roman dialect. On the other side of the open ground, a young woman who looks polite and still very little-girlish is waiting for a youth to pass by who she is secretly in love with. This time she has made up her mind to find an excuse to talk to him. However, she is not the only one who is waiting for him. In fact, not far from her there is the neighborhood drug dealer who is waiting for a victim. When the youth arrives, there is soon a battle between the two people waiting, played out as a subtle game of glances. The surprising and accidental intervention of a little man will reshuffle the cards of destiny.

"A little Zavattini-esque miracle that happened in Primavalle, Rome, on a Sunday in June, 1993." (Andrea Leoni)
