Lilly is a 19yearold Asian girl who works in her family's drycleaning shop. One day, she reads about a man who has found murdered, his body floating in a mountain with his head wrapped in a plastic bag. Lilly goes to the police station and tries to claim the body for burial. She insists that the unidentified man was her lover, but evidence soon points to Lilly as being the prime suspect. Arrested, she makes no effort to defend herself against the charges. What really happened on the night the murder took place is revealed in a series of visits Lilly receives from a mysterious woman who has just moved into the apartment above her family's shop.

Declaration

film director

"The film deals with a number of themes such as patriarchal tyranny, the media and of course the nature of love. Lilly is a mixture of opposing styles and characters. At times the film is extravagantly melodramatic, at times naturalistic, at time satirical, and at times moody and dark. We didn't want to be a slave to the idea of 'consistency' which is a currently 'imposed' convention. Some of the passages are intense and disturbing, others are light and ridiculous. A rich juxtaposition of opposing textures was sought. Although Lilly is packed with story, most of it takes place off screen; it is only suggested. Mood is probably the most important aspect of the film." (David Marcoux)
