Two cousins Elena, a professional biologist, and Ida, an airline stewardess meet for the first time in fifteen years at the time when a seaside villa where they had spent their adolescence is to be sold. The relationship between the two women had gone sour when Elena got married to Enrico, Ida's exfiancé. Elena suffers from bulimia and spends her nights consuming enormous quantities of food on the sly in an effort to forget the crisis in her marriage. Elena finds out from her husband that he has decided to ask her for a separation. The woman takes out her unhappiness on Ida and throws her out of the house. At the train station, Ida thinks about what has happened and finds out about her cousin's illness. She retraces her steps back to the house and from the outside of the house she observes Elena's degradation in front of an infinite expanse of food.
