TILTOTT TERULET

A fire destroys a factory of plastic products. The damage is enormous, but it seems that there were no victims. The tensions explode between Hoffer, the production manager, and Kis, the administrator. Besides, they had never gotten along previously. An investigation is conducted, but it ends with the dismissal of all grounds for proceeding further. However, a young state attorney is not very convinced and goes ahead with his investigation. In the meantime, Kis is looking for a man. He has the impression that someone is missing, that someone has disappeared during that terrible night. Workers come and go. The work is hard, and the pay is mediocre. This explains die instability of the personnel. In the end, Kis finds the traces of the missing man. He was imprisoned one day after the fire for a crime he had committed previously. Nevertheless, a corpse is discovered under the wreckage, that of a nameless man. Now the state attorney has to formulate an accusation. However, will the person who is really responsible be the one who will have to come to court?

"In fact, I tried to investigate in the story about so many multifaceted factors. Some people spell Truth with a capital letter. There are so many complex, complicated, human, social and economic problems that hide behind a grey newspaper item that gives the news of a fire in a factory. I know well that the plot I chose for my new film does not fit in well with the current main tendencies of the young directors. Many perhaps would not judge it to be modern enough. What should I do if I am mainly interested in events like this, and if all my ideas are determined by my interest in common life?" (Interview of Istvan Zsugan with Pal Gabor, "Filmvilag", 4/1969)
