One day Elena, a middleclass girl from Chihuahua and a dance student, sees her mother leaving with her lover and watches her father committing suicide. She tries finding a decent job in Ciudad Juárez but is sold by a friend to the maîtresse Rosaura, the owner of a cabaret-brothel. Elena becomes a highly successful cabaret artist and dancer. During the cabaret she recognizes the man who seduced her mother and wounds him. Rosaura tries to punish her by asking one of her men to slash her face. Another of them saves her and they run away together. In Mexico City Elena triumphs as a dancer in a famous cabaret. To escape a blackmailer, she agrees to marry Mario, a young Guadalajara jet setter, whose mother turns out to be Rosaura. Elena takes her revenge by humiliating her motherinlaw in a thousand different ways. She even returns to Ciudad Juárez to work in the cabaret so that her husband will be able to see who his mother really is. In the end, free of everyone, Elena and her husband leave together, ready to live happily ever after.
