Some documents compromising the corrupt governor Vidal result in the murder of a tradeunion leader. Octavio, a companion of the tradeunionist, looks for the documents and escapes from Ruiz, Vidal's agent. He slips into a cinema where he finds Julieta who helps him to escape. Both of them go to the house where she lives with her brother, her son Juanito and her husband Ignacio, who has a mistress. Years before, Octavio, Julieta and Ignacio had fought together for freedom at the university. While Ignacio looks for the documents, the agent is killed by Julia. With the help of some workers and a neighbour, Octavio disposes of the body and meets Julieta in the cabaret where she works to earn her miserable living. It is here that he receives the documents from Ignacio. Octavio and Julieta spend the night together but, in spite of being in love, they do not have sex. Helped by the cabaret owner, Octavio takes the train to a labour congress to denounce Vidal. Julieta is about to leave with him, but then she repents and remains at the station with Ignacio and Juanito.
