Afflicted by his widowhood, the rich Ramiro gets drunk and allows himself to be exploited by his children Virginia and Eduardo, by his lazy brother and by his brother's wife. His manager, who is worried about the way business is going, calls in the other brother Gregorio to help. After a party Ramiro, who is drunk, has a heart attack. Gregorio suggests a plan to the family: they make him believe that they are broke due to fraudulent bankruptcy, they tell him that he has spent a year doing nothing and that the whole family will now have to work to remedy matters. A young electrician prevents Ramiro from committing suicide. Ramiro wanted to kill himself in order to collect the insurance money for his family. Thanks to the electrician, Ramiro now understands what is happening but continues the farce: he behaves in such a way that the family really believes they are bankrupt. Everyone is regenerated thanks to their work. Ramiro prevents Virginia, who is already at the altar, from marrying a profiteer. She leaves with the honest electrician who happens to be passing in front of the church in his truck.
