A chance encounter between a young woman from Eastern Europe and a young man, an immigrant from Egypt, in an apartment in the center of Rome. He sneaks in, forcing the glass doors, thinking that the apartment owners have gone away on vacation. The young woman has fled from exYugoslavia and fears for the fate of her parents, who she has lost touch with. Mamud is looking for shelter for himself and for his little girl, who was born out of a relationship with a young Italian woman who preferred to give her up to adoption. The father has stolen her away from the foundling hospital and now has to hide her. A relationship of friendship and common interest develops between Mamud and Layla.

Francesca Pirani

Francesca Pirani earned degrees from the National Academy of Dramatic Art in acting and from the Experimental Film Center in directing. In 1987 she began her work with Marco Bellocchio as a co-screenwriter and assistant director. After she worked several years for RAI, she made the 3D animated film La casa più bella del mondo.
