Cordova, in Veracruz. The young Rosario gives herself to her fiancé. Her father, Antonio, becomes seriously ill. Rosario does not have money enough to buy him the necessary medicines. What is more, Antonio's boss tries to sexually abuse her and she also learns that her fiancé is betraying her with another girl. Antonio scolds the fiancé and he throws the old man down the stairs. Rosario returns with the medicine that she has purchased on credit and finds her father dead. Alone and grieving she buries him while a carnival is being celebrated in the streets. Time passes. A new ship, flying the Honduras flag, arrives at the Veracruz harbour. Alberto is travelling on the ship. He frees Rosario, who has become a prostitute, from the clutches of a drunkard. Alberto and Rosario go to her room. They make love and, during a dramatic conversation, they discover that they are brother and sister. Rosario commits suicide by throwing herself into the sea without Alberto being able to do anything about it.
