MALAMILANO: DALLA LIGGERA ALLA CRIMINALITA ORGANIZZATA

MALAMILANO: FROM DOWNANDOUT TO OUTLAWSINC.

Country: Italy
Year: 1997
Duration: 45'

The transition in the Milanese underworld from the old romantic "mala" of the 1950's to the organized crime of the 1970's. The "mala", was anchored in traditional values, rooted in the popular social fabric and motivated by the need to survive. It gave way as this world reached a turning point during the economic boom of the 1960's and as criminal violence progressively increased. This kind of underworld was by then moved only by the profit motive and, by the beginning of the 1970's, encouraged by the spread of criminal activity coming from southern Italy, which brought along a different type of "underworld" culture.
