Don Rodrigo is the authoritarian head of a middle class family consisting of himself, his wife doña Gracia, his older children Estela and Héctor, both employees, a middle daughter Maru and two small children. Héctor, against his will, is being forced to many a girl that he has dishonoured. Estela runs away from home after a fight with her father. As far as Maru is concerned, she becomes a good friend of a representative that cleverly manages to sell don Rodrigo a vacuum cleaner. But a cousin from the province, the rich and stupid Ricardo, wants to marry Maru. Don Rodrigo agrees. Maru has to stop seeing her new friend, whom she has fallen in love with and who refuses to resign himself to the fact that she might marry her cousin. This time under the pretence of selling the family a refrigerator, he takes his courage in both hands and asks don Rodrigo for his daughter's hand. Rodrigo refuses Roberto the hand of Maru and she also leaves home. It is her wedding day. Dressed in her bridal gown she is supported by the entire family. Everyone is happy except her father.
