Scenes from the everyday life of a middle-class family in Lisbon alternate with news images of the birth, the success and the fall of the New State. The head of the family, a republican, is compared with the dictator Salazar. A large portion of the movie was filmed before April 25th, 1974 and was completed and edited after the end of the dictatorship. The director made use of repertory material and inserted scenes from A Revolução de Maio by António Lopes Ribeiro and Chaimite by Jorge Brum do Canto.
