Rita aged nineteen works in a beauty shop. Her beautiful long black hair is the envy of her colleagues. The young girl is just about to marry Paulo, a cameraman, she is not certain really loves her. Therefore she decides to test him: she cuts her hair very short and covers her head with a white veil bought in a bridal shop. The marriage is celebrated in a registry office. Rita removes her veil in front of the justice of peace, leaving the bridegroom open-mouthed. The young man is extremely displeased with her new haircut and the dinner that ensues is eaten in a cold, silent atmosphere. On reaching home, the two separate. Paulo spends the night with his camera on his shoulder, while Rita wanders about the city. Their relationship is over but another one is about to begin.
