Country: Netherlands
Year: 1999
Duration: 18'

A lucid and rigorous documentary about prostitution in Dutch cities. The movie camera shoots the secluded and "neat" open areas that become the stage for nocturnal encounters. The statements recorded during the interviews describe the humiliating situation from the prostitutes' point of view.

"For me the filmshows most of all an overwhelming feeling of alienation in today society. It is a theme that is present in all the films I made. De Zone is about the struggle of this society and the authorities with a very complex problem that is universal. The solution they found is very bizzarre and functional at the same time" (Ben van Lieshout).
