IL BELLO DEL NIENTE

THE GOOD OF NOTHING

Country: Italy
Year: 1999
Duration: 40'

Backstage images and interviews from Silvano Agosti's last film. Agosti is an independent and self-sufficient director, the highest example of Italian independent cinema. Agosti constructs his films from all angles, given that he is a screenwriter, director, lighting director, editor, distributor, and the first producer of himself. Agosti gives us images worthy of contemplation. He unveils the great themes of human existence in a way that is so simple that he sometimes seems to belong to that healthy naiveté typical of a baby.

"For several years I have been collecting and comparing the personal testimonies and the various experiences of those directors who have not turned their backs on their needs to express themselves through cinema free from commercial bonds. The aim of my project also consists in managing to raise more interest and participation in the idea of creating a kind of alternative cinema (or television). This would be something fit for young directors or for those who have not found space for themselves in Italian commercial film. It is important to create a new culture and create a wider territory for quality cinema courageously distributed" (Cristina Mazza).
