Kadi Jolie is the other side of Pleurs de femmes. Here is the comic instead of the tragic. Here there is still the same determination and sensuality in filming faces and in placing them in space. This comes after the undeniable work done in this vein for Kini & Adams. Entre l'arbre et l'écorce is the pilot film for the television series Kadi Jolie. There are twenty episodes that are being worked on now. They will be broadcast in the first half of 2000 on Commedie. The episodes are short comic sketches in which the characters live through family and social situations in Ouagadougou. In the pilot episode the young woman protagonist falls in love with a man who has seen on the street, but she throws him out of her house after a week because he cheated on her. She seeks revenge with the help of a friend and a marabout. This is a film-joke, a natural continuation of Kini & Adams, where the jokes were the main thread that tied the two friends in life and in the after-life. Ouédraogo relies on excess, on characters that become caricatures, and on satire that demystifies rituals and superstitions.

Idrissa Ouédraogo
Idrissa Ouédraogo was born in Banfora, Burkina Faso in 1954. He graduated from the African Film Studies Institute in Ouagadougou. He then worked in the governing board of the Film Production of Burkino Faso in 1981. He remained for a period in Kiev. In 1985 he graduated from IDHEC in Paris. He then received a degree in film studies at the University of Paris at the Sorbonne.
