by Mahmoud ben Mahmoud
Country: Netherlands
Year: 1999
Duration: 90'

Wahid and his daughter Soufiya return to Tunisia after a long stay in western Africa. Soufiya's mother is French, but the two were separated ten years earlier after her father committed a crime, and the girl finds herself suddenly immersed in her African heritage. Her father would like to transform Soufiya into a real Tunisian, a true daughter of their land. But the country has changed a lot during their absence and Wahid soon finds himself facing dishonest and disloyal behavior. Soufiya, feeling herself caged in, wants her mother. And so a long and difficult trip leading to a reconciliation between her parents is begun. She will manage to have her diversity be accepted within Tunisian society, even though she hasn't overcome her own prejudices towards blacks and non-Muslims.
