A lively and well-chosen selection of the best images collected during the resistance in Europe. The chronicle of a great political and military mobilization. We see the first Italian and Yugoslav partisan groups, the exploits of the maquis of Vercors, the struggles in the Alps and the Apennines, and the liberation of Paris, Milan, and Turin.
"This montage film is one of the first ambitious works undertaken by the National Film Archive of the Resistance in its first years of activity. We intended to collect images that were as authentic as possible and were shot during the partisan struggle in various parts of Europe. We tried to organize them into a kind of filmed lesson (as we have defined it while we were working on it) that we were to offer to children and young people both in and out of school. (…) Despite our work refining this film, it has remained rough and grainy, and I think this is one of its merits. Its images have that strong taste of authenticity, not that well-polished and sought-after sweetness of the «beautiful image»" (Paolo Gobetti).
