"This movie was written and filmed to show the life and works of the German author Georg Büchner, with special attention to his activity as a political agitator and writer, but it is not a biography. With the help of electric light and a typewriter, he talks about the war in Spain and about Cézanne. Büchner's character and his life emerge like a fictional notion and his history - like his later works - is a crossroads of intimacy, associations, defeats, nostalgia, passions and even the scepticism (perhaps the desperation) of a man who, like the generation of thirty-year-olds in present-day Portugal, discover they have lost everything they thought they could count on (and on which they still insist on counting)" (Jorge Silva Melo).
