Having left the spaces filmed in cinemascope in Kini & Adams, Idrissa Ouédraogo uses his video and a very low budget with extraordinary effect and conciseness. He immerses himself in the popular culture of his country and acts in a way that people may become aware of inhuman rituals that continue to be practiced in the name of tradition. This is the case with female circumcision, a practice to which a great number of women on the African continent are submitted In Pleurs de femmes Ouédraogo treats the issue using tragedy with the force of Tilai. We see the pain, the despair, and the dignity that is sculpted on the faces of the women. Ouédraogo implants flashes from the present and the past during the time of a funeral. We see a young girl who is about to be submitted to the ritual and an old women with a stone blade. The tool for practicing this ritual will be buried in the earth, which is wounded like the bodies.

Idrissa Ouédraogo
Idrissa Ouédraogo was born in Banfora, Burkina Faso in 1954. He graduated from the African Film Studies Institute in Ouagadougou. He then worked in the governing board of the Film Production of Burkino Faso in 1981. He remained for a period in Kiev. In 1985 he graduated from IDHEC in Paris. He then received a degree in film studies at the University of Paris at the Sorbonne.
