Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina
Year: 1986
Duration: 33'

The comic and the tragic, fiction in a documentary, hope after desperation - these are elements of this short film that Ouédraogo directed in the same year as his first feature film, Yam Daabo (1986). This short gathers together certain signs that he had expressed before and makes a perfect prologue to his Yam Daabo. In Tenga we find ourselves in contact with the village and the city and with events that are trusted to be told in gestures rather than in words. A drought is threatening a village and its inhabitants. Carcasses of animals and trees are everyday events. Men and women are divided between working in the fields and looking for jobs in Ouagadougou. There is the splendor of the shots of the women who prepare food and then cook it. Alongside this feature that explicitly documents the real, Ouédraogo places the story of a couple as well as moments of comedy and tragedy. The young woman forces Tenga to take a plow in order to go and work the land. There is the death of Tenga's mother. Ouédraogo proceeds didacticly, but this is quickly undermined by his look of love in filming the time of a life.
