AS TERÇAS DA BAILARINA GORDA

THE FAT DANCER'S TUESDAYS

Year: 2000
Duration: 21'

Luisa, a 50-years-old divorcee and perfect cook, has Tuesday's off. Tuesdays are when Luisa shows the zoo to her grand-son or invites her friend round for dinner. Her friend who only likes sad men. Until the birth of her son, Luisa was a ballerina. She stopped dancing. She had to replace her sense of life with the sense of humor. Very corrosive, very dark humor. But one Tuesday, she finds a reason to dance again…

"Five Tuesdays, one after another, in a life that ranges from 'all little girls want to be ballerinas' to 'the height of ridiculousness is a hippopotamus in toe shoes' (even Disney knew this). Everything is funny here, with a mean humor that is typical of people who aren't at ease with their own body. You can pretend everything's fine because you have had the time to learn to avoid past hurts, to distract yourself, to forget it for a moment. You can pretend to be courageous, funny, brave. Every now and then you can use cynical expressions to defend yourself. Except when a girl asks you to dance, then you find yourself trapped by the drama that you had been able to hide" (Jeanne Waltz).
