DON CESARE - PRETE DI FRONTIERA

DON CESARE, BORDER PRIEST
by Franca Cereghini
Country: Italy, UK
Year: 2000
Duration: 56'

Don Cesare Lodeserto is a strong, magnetic priest who is at the same time available, ironic and shrewd. He directs the Regina Pacis center in San Foca, Apulia. Along with him we can re-experience the drama of the Kosovar refugees as well as the Albanian, Rom, and Kurdish illegal immigrants. As we follow Don Cesare in his daily life, his personality - as director of the center, as priest, and as man - emerges in all its complexity. The characters and stories of the other protagonists are outlined through him. Just as the war in Kosovo finishes, the first Kurds reach Regina Pacis. There are more arrivals and departures - the endless story of peoples condemned to flee.

"Don Cesare, Florian, Marco, Renata and all the other people I met at the Regina Pacis center gave me this big gift of allowing me to be part of their lives. The film is my 'present in return', it is the proof of how our stories inter-mixed" (Franca Cereghini).
