DREAMING BAREFOOT (UN SOGNO A PIEDI NUDI)

DREAMING BAREFOOT
by Gabriele Buti
Country: Italy, France
Year: 2000
Duration: 52'

John is an African immigrant who lives in Turin. He left his native Nigeria to follow a dream - to become a professional soccer player in Europe. When he returns to Lagos after a four-year absence, he revisits the haunts of his childhood, returning to the desolate area from which he had departed, a "street footballer" in search of fortune. At the same time Sunday Oliseh, who plays for Juventus in Italy, is playing a match for the Cup of Africa for the Nigerian national team. These are two sides of the same dream that had began in the same way - barefoot in Africa.

"This is not film about football or a film about immigration from outside the European Community. This is not a film about Africa or about Turin. It is the story of the dream of Segun, a Nigerian youth who has come to Europe to become a professional soccer player, one among many. We followed the path of his story" (Gabriele Buti, Andrea Bessone, Alessandra Blotto).
