Abdesalem is a disillusioned man, his dreams have been destroyed. Thinking that his future doesn't lie in Morocco, he decides to cross the Mediterranean and go to Spain. At night, on a rubber dinghy running clandestine immigrants, he thinks of Rhimou, the girl he loved, of his country and of their separation.
"L'Horizon perdu is a short film that uses a love story to tell of the destiny of two young Moroccans who are in love, of the decisions they make and of their opposing dreams. The story of Rhimou and Abdesalem also shows a Morocco running at two speeds. Some Moroccans, like Abdesalem, are ready to risk their life to flee from their homeland, thinking that everything is possible on the other side of the Mediterranean. Others don't want to give up and continue their daily battle, dreaming of a different and modern Morocco. As a young Moroccan woman, it was fundamental for me to make this film. In fact, after a few years I, too, left my homeland and went to France to continue my studies. I felt I had to make this film like my characters, torn between the need to leave and the pain of separation" (Laïla Marrakchi).

Laïla Marrakchi
Laïla Marrakchi is 23 years old, she graduated from Lyautey secondary school in Casablanca. After moving to France, she received her degree in 1996 from ESRA (Ecole Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle) in cinema, with a thesis on Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders. In 1996, she enrolled at the university of Saint-Denis (Paris VIII).
